Welcome!

Welcome to TIM's page on TRINIDAD FOOD!
Here you will find out a little bit about Trinidad and its history, as well as how Trindadian food came to be. Enjoy!

In the 1500’s, Christopher Columbus discovered the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. Through centuries of evolution and adaptation the identity of the peoples slowly changed from being purely Amerindian to a diverse atmosphere of international cultures. The transformation allowed for the islands to adopt the best aspects of the new inhabitants’ lifestyles and adapt those ideas to the Trini Caribbean life. Everything from food, religion and even music has been affected by those changes in the demographics of Trinidad and Tobago. As opposed to centuries ago, when Amerindians ruled the lands, Indians and Africans now account for almost eighty percent of the population (Elvington). The variety of foods and the fusion of cultures in Trinidad and Tobago have been strongly influenced by the influx of immigrants during the colonization period.
